AB Edmonton - Regional Meeting - Balancing Acts: A Guide to Onboarding and Offboarding - Hybrid

May 15, 2024

5:00 PM - 8:30 PM MDT

Onboarding is such a crucial aspect of any business operation, whether it's bringing on new clients or welcoming new team members.

For client onboarding, automation can be a game-changer. Setting up automated systems for gathering necessary information and documents from clients not only saves time but also ensures consistency. By having predefined processes and checklists, you reduce the risk of missing important steps or information. Plus, it sets a professional tone and helps manage expectations from the start.

When it comes to onboarding new employees or subcontractors, having a structured process is essential.

We have a passport, providing a clear roadmap for new hires to understand our company's culture, processes, and tools. This not only accelerates their integration into the team but also sets them up for success by ensuring they have the knowledge and resources they need to excel in their roles.

Now, offboarding is often overlooked but just as important as onboarding. Knowing when to offboard someone is crucial for maintaining team dynamics, productivity, and company culture. Having a well-defined offboarding process ensures that departing employees or clients are handled professionally and respectfully. It also helps protect sensitive information and ensures a smooth transition for everyone involved.

Consistency is key in both the onboarding and offboarding processes. Having documented procedures and checklists ensures that nothing falls through the cracks and that every new client or employee receives the same level of attention and support. It also helps streamline operations and maintain quality standards across the board.

What are some specific strategies or tools you use for onboarding and offboarding in your organization?

Presenter: Melissa Lenos

In 2009, I took a leap of faith and founded King Accounting Solutions, driven by my passion for bookkeeping. Over the years, our services expanded beyond bookkeeping to encompass human resources and Virtual CFO solutions. In 2022, through a strategic partnership, we further evolved into King Business Solutions & KBS Accounting, broadening our scope to include corporate and personal income taxes, as well as comprehensive tax planning services. Witnessing this growth, both professionally and personally, has been immensely fulfilling.

At KBS, we take pride in delivering top-notch bookkeeping, payroll, and accounting services across Canada, catering to clients from coast to coast. As a Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) and a Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), I am deeply committed to upholding the highest standards of excellence in our field. Additionally, I am honored to serve as Vice Chair on the board of the CPB, contributing to the advancement of our profession.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I find solace in travel and the sport of golf. You may occasionally find me out of the office, exploring new destinations or enjoying a round on the golf course.
