This week's Staff Spotlight we are showcasing one of our newest members of the CPB Canada team; Rick Johal, CAE. Some of you may know Rick since we introduced him back in March - well here are some things you may not know!
"I come from a Public Affairs background but also managed a range of association operations including accreditation, membership, professional development, and government relations. I have worked in both the public and not for profit sectors including the Ontario Government and the City of Kitchener.
Almost exclusively, most of my spare time is trying to keep up with my two young daughters. They seem to have all the time in the world for their Dad right now…so that is my life and I wouldn’t want it any other way. When they go to sleep…I enjoy playing sports and being active. Whether that is playing volleyball, soccer, basketball or golf…I just enjoy a bit of exercise and anything that fires up my competitive juices. Hmmm, what else. I enjoy reading, movies, listening to podcasts and spending time with friends.
Some fun facts about myself include:
- On the first day of an internship with the American Lung Association – I got to meet and sit next to Hall of Fame running back Jerome “the bus” Bettis. Me and two other colleagues fit inside his jacket.
- Have a plan to visit every MLB ballpark – visited 6 so far and I got plenty of work to do!
- Played Volleyball at the University of Illinois at Chicago
What do I love most about being a part of CPB Canada? Well, I am fortunate to be the CEO of a strong and nimble team. I try and facilitate both a successful and strong board approach to governance and enable the operations team to be able to deliver value on a regular basis. You might find me getting my hands into public affairs, membership, and communication issues from time to time and lastly members can always reach out to me to chat."
Stay tuned to Rick's newest initative Coffee with the CEO, where Rick will be meeting with groups of our members to get to know more of the wonderful CPB Canada community.
