CPB Canada Appoints Rick Johal, CAE, as Chief Executive Officer

On behalf of your Board of Directors, I am excited to announce the appointment of our new CEO, Rick Johal, CAE. Rick will take on the mantle of Chief Executive Officer of CPB Canada on March 1, 2021.

Rick joins CPB Canada after being a senior leader with the Association of Municipal Managers, Clerks & Treasurers of Ontario (AMCTO) and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). During this time, he was able to grow membership and the stature of municipal managers while advancing the interests of Mayors and locally elected officials across Ontario.  Prior to this, Rick worked in managerial and advisory roles with the City of Kitchener and the Province of Ontario.

Committed to the principles of servant leadership, Rick places great value on inclusive management that engages and creates opportunities for growth. These values have allowed him to excel with a diverse range of professional groups throughout his career.

Rick holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from McMaster University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Illinois at Chicago.  In 2019, he earned the CAE (Certified Association Executive) designation from the Canadian Society of Association Executives.  Additionally, he completed the Ivey Academy leadership program at Western University and, earlier this year, the Diversity and Inclusion program at Cornell University.

We are confident that Rick’s many talents, approach to leadership, and wide-ranging experience will help CPB Canada to continue to create a diverse professional community that inspires excellence, builds meaningful connections and fosters innovation and learning.

Rick is the son of immigrant parents and was born in Hamilton. While he claims to be an adopted son of Chicago, he now lives in Milton, just west of Toronto, with his wife Meena and their two beautiful daughters.

When time permits, Rick enjoys reading, listening to podcasts, and staying active by playing a few sports. Finally, he is an active community volunteer and serves as a development coach for youth volleyball, whereby he taps into his experience as a former collegiate athlete.

Please join your Board of Directors and the Operations Team in warmly welcoming Rick to his new role with us.

Sincerely,

Colleen Hoggarth, CPB, FCPB
Board Chair
