Congratulations To Ekansh Saxen, Recent Recipient Of The Alan Salmon Bursary
We are pleased to share the most recent recipient of the Alan Salmon Bursary Program through CPB Canada in partnership with Conestoga College as the current administrator of the program.
We formally congratulate Ekansh Saxen on being awarded the Alan Salmon Bursary this term. As a successful recipient, the bursary will help further Ekansh's academic and professional pursuits. Ekansh shared the following words:
“As soon as I learnt of the generous awards, bursaries and scholarships Conestoga offers to its students, I had my eyes set on this goal. I remember from the first class till the last that I will be carrying all these learnings into my professional world. Each instructor understood the students' mental capacities and work obligations in the course and tailored the sessions as per that.
Since this was the first time I was exposed to accounting in Canada, I tried to help my fellow Condors in whichever way possible. I participated in the college's volunteer tax clinic and pitched my volunteer organization, “Shelter Movers,” to incoming Fall students.
I wish to advance in the bookkeeping field and get a CPB designation in the short run. In the longer term, I would like to establish my own tax practice. I am extremely thankful to Conestoga College, CPB Canada and the Alan Salmon Bursary for supporting me to study further while working”
When asked about Ekansh, the Conestoga faculty also provided the following statement:
“In the classroom, he was present, active and engaged. He was always curious and advocating for himself for opportunities and pathways post-graduation. In the tax clinic, he worked well without direct supervision, and went the extra mile and stayed for the "overtime" of the volunteer gig. He attended the KW Chapter meeting for CPB Canada as a student interested in the association; he and I talked about whether it would be worth it for him to attend the conference in Winnipeg. He is a student, I will remember. A gentleman I wish future success.” - Kathy Zigby, Coordinator
We feel that there is no better way to honour the legacy of Alan Salmon than by investing in the future of our profession and community; in doing so, we remember his contributions to our organization and the industry.
