Congratulations To Jack Penney, Recent Recipient Of The Alan Salmon Bursary

Share on:

We are pleased to share the most recent recipient of the Alan Salmon Bursary Program through CPB Canada in partnership with Conestoga College as the current administrator of the program.

We formally congratulate John-Hayward "Jack" Penney on being awarded the Alan Salmon Bursary this term. As a successful recipient, the bursary will help further Jack's academic and professional pursuits. Jack shared the following words.

Over the last two semesters at Conestoga College, I have demonstrated my commitment to learning, studies and professional growth, taking pride in all of my work as an engaged learner.

During the spring of 2023, I proudly represented Conestoga as a volunteer tax preparer at the office of Brantford, ON, Member of Parliament (MP) Larry Brock. My positive attitude, knowledge and professionalism made a strong impression on the MP’s office and the clients I served. The MP’s office has informally expressed interest in exploring further opportunities for Conestoga students at their office based on this experience.

I wish to pursue my education in bookkeeping and payroll further with the hopes of one day owning my own practice. Thank you, sincerely, to Conestoga College, CPB Canada, and the Alan Salmon Bursary; this award truly helped me get through my studies while working.

The Conestoga faculty also provided the following statement.

Jack was well-respected by his professors and fellow classmates and emerged as a true leader for his peers, who relied on him as a resource for academic support, both in and outside the classroom. Jack exemplifies authentic student leadership and commitment to learning and is very deserving of this award; he will do well going forward.

We feel that there is no better way to honour the legacy of Alan Salmon than by investing in the future of our profession and community; in doing so, we remember his contributions to our organization and the industry.
