Hi, I’m Asif and am the owner and founder of Platinum Bookkeeping and Tax. I come from a family of entrepreneurs and business owners. After holding senior positions in the corporate world with Best Buy Canada and Shaw Communications, I decided to chart my own course to create something that could benefit others in my community.
As an entrepreneur and small business owner myself, I know how much effort, skill, and tenacity are required to grow a small business— and the numerous complexities involved in doing so. From starting out in 2017 as a sole practitioner to now being a team of 4, I have learned much along the way in what it takes to grow a business, how to survive the challenging times, and build a great team.
I am an Enrolled Agent (EA), admitted to practice before the IRS, and a Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) for the IRS. I oversee the overall operations of the firm but keep a sharp focus on U.S. taxation, sales of real property in the U.S., and all compliance related filings. My primary focus is to advance small businesses in Canada by ensuring access to exceptional bookkeeping and tax services.
As we began to develop our U.S. services within Platinum over the past 3 years, we saw a growing need for a comprehensive solution for Canadians selling U.S. property interests. I recognized the need to create a one-stop service offering where everything from US withholding tax compliance all the way through to the ending Canadian tax return can be handled seamlessly and efficiently. Thus, FIRPTA CANADA was born and launched as our sister company in September 2022.
My professional credentials include:
Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB) – CPB Canada
Enrolled Agent (EA) – Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) – Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
I am a member in good standing with:
National Payroll Institute
National Association of Tax Professionals (NATP) – U.S.A
Outside of work / business, I enjoy fishing, 5-pin bowling (I was in YBC as a youngster), spending time with my family, barbecuing whenever I have the opportunity, and chauffeuring my 10-year-old son around to his hockey games and practices.
