T1 Workshop Series: Tax Tune-Up - Federal/Central & Atlantic Legislation - January 28 & 30, 2025

January 28, 2025 to January 30, 2025

1:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST

Info

One of your clients, Hala, is considering an offer for a new position at her workplace.  However, the employer wants her to sign an independent contractor agreement rather than continuing as an employee.  He says, “All businesses are moving to this model, and head office wants everyone to sign a contract. It’s a great idea. She can claim all kinds of expenses and cut her taxes way down to almost nothing.”  Hala’s husband is not sure it’s a good idea. In fact, he is against it. Hala wants your opinion. Should she sign the contract? Is it as good as the boss says?

Now in its 19th year, Allan Loiselle’s Tax Tune-Up© workshop is designed for those who are new to the tax preparation profession, returning seasonal tax preparers and more experienced people who would like a refresher.  It’s a fast-paced, informative, interactive workshop designed to answer your questions.  A combination of visual presentations, information-packed workbooks, group discussions, and individual exercises help you get to where you want to go.  You will receive useful ideas and knowledge you can put to work right away.

Here are the topics we’re discussing in the coming workshop:

  • What’s new in federal and provincial taxes
  • Selected tax credits
  • Review of capital gains, including the new inclusion rules
  • Review of CRA’s view on employees vs. self-employed contractors
  • T2124 Income from self-employment, including allowable home and vehicle expense
  • Almost real-life exercises
  • Building your relationship with your client – Working as a pro

Speaker: Allan Loiselle

Allan is a retired personal tax and small business accountant with over 35 years of experience working with clients just like yours. He understands the challenges of tax preparation and bookkeeping from the perspective of someone providing services to individuals and small business owners. He has been there and done that.  Allan is a life member of the Association of Tax and Accounting Professionals and served on their board of directors for many years, including three terms as President. Allan and his wife, Selina live just north of Grand Bend on the shores of beautiful Lake Huron.

Here are a few comments about the previous year’s workshops:

“I always enjoy the Tax Tune-Up with Allan. Engaging and informative.”

“Really enjoy how Allan involves his audience in a Zoom presentation.”

“I see this workshop as an annual necessity. On years [where] I feel I may not have learned much, the value is always there because it confirms what I know. This year, there were several things to learn and/or confirm. Hope to see this again next year. Thank you.”

“Allan is not only informative but can make it fun; instead of just preaching, he makes sure everyone is engaged in his workshop!”
