Rick Johal, CAE

Chief Executive Officer​

Rick is passionately dedicated to driving growth and building future-ready communities and organizations. As CEO of CPB Canada, his inspiring leadership has brought positive reforms to Ontario’s municipal sector and the Canadian accounting industry.

Rick’s commitment to excellence is backed by degrees in Economics and Public Administration, along with the CAE designation. He has also earned leadership credentials from the Ivey School of Business, Cornell University, and Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Beyond the Office:
Rick is deeply invested in coaching and mentorship, dedicating his time as a club-level volleyball coach. To stay active, he trains in Muay Thai and enjoys golfing (though he admits he’s an average golfer).

Most important to Rick is spending quality time with his loving wife and two beautiful daughters.

Jeff Caverly, CPB, FCPB

Director, Finance & Administration

Jeff is a skilled finance leader with deep expertise in financial management, administration, and strategic planning. He manages essential financial operations, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency throughout organizational processes.

Holding the designation of Certified Professional Bookkeeper (CPB), Jeff was honoured as a Fellow (FCPB) and was the first recipient of the staff Excellence in Leadership Award from CPB Canada in 2022.

Jeff demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence and integrity in financial stewardship. His leadership combines technical skill with a focus on resource optimization and supporting organizational growth.

Beyond the Office:
You can often find Jeff enjoying the great outdoors, whether it’s on a good, long walk or an invigorating, lengthy bike ride.

There will always be a four-legged furry friend (or two, or three, or seven) (cats and dogs), paws pitter-pattering around Jeff’s home.

Cheryl Manmohan

Director, Programming

Joining CPB Canada in early 2025, Cheryl Manmohan has been a passionate advocate for the association’s mission to elevate and support bookkeepers—a commitment that dates back to the association’s formative years. With a strong foundation in developing education and certification programs at both Sage and Intuit, Cheryl brings deep insight into the evolving needs of accounting professionals. As a dedicated community leader, she has consistently championed this vital group, recognizing their essential contributions to the success of businesses across Canada and beyond.

Outside of work, Cheryl enjoys exploring new hiking trails with her family. A lifelong Winnipeg Jets fan with an unwavering love for hockey, she also serves on the board of the Greater Victoria Ball Hockey Association, where her son is a goaltender.

Cindy Smith has been with CPB Canada since 2019, bringing over two decades of expertise in the not-for-profit sector. She applies her strategic focus to enhance engagement and drive the success of the CPB designation program. Cindy has a strong passion for cultivating partnerships and ensuring membership growth and satisfaction, which enables her to advocate for members and elevate the profession. Her focus is always on delivering value to the community she is proud to serve. She is also a devoted dog mom and maintains a strong commitment to community service through her volunteer work.

Sao is a results-driven professional with 10 years of experience successfully managing technology, communications, and event execution. He  excels at bridging the gap between technical complexity and audience engagement, ensuring seamless operations and impactful outreach.

Beyond the office
Away from work, Sao maintains an active lifestyle. He enjoys competitive sports, particularly golf and basketball. While he appreciates the outdoors, his true passion during his spare time is riding his motorcycle, embracing the open road and the freedom of the ride.

Events & Communications Lead

Nicole is responsible for amplifying CPB Canada’s organizational voice through strategic communications and digital content, and is now the driving force behind CPB Canada’s annual IGNITE conference.

Nicole’s approach balances detailed execution with big-picture thinking. She’s committed to continuous improvement, implementing high-level project management frameworks and developing branding for new initiatives. A lifelong learner, she holds a BA Honours from the University of Guelph, has completed training in project management and communications, and is currently working toward her CAE designation.

With strong roots and a keen interest in professional development content creation, community building, and experience optimization, Myriam thrives in providing diverse audiences with relevant, inclusive, and engaging content tailored to their needs. In her spare time, she enjoys knitting and sewing garments, and exploring the scenic outdoors of Atlantic Canada where she resides.
